2016 CHAP Girls Volleyball -- for interested girls ages 8 and up!

The 2016 CHAP Girls' Volleyball season is just getting underway and we're excited!

PRE-SEASON TRAINING

CHAP Volleyball Pre-season training will begin for JV and Varsity teams on Monday, August 8, with the Jr. High and Elementary teams beginning on Tuesday, August 9-- both at 6:30pm at Aim High. Please try to arrive a few minutes early so we can begin practice promptly at 6:30pm. :)

If your daughter would like to try out for either the JV or Varsity teams, she is invited to come next Monday evening. The Elementary and Jr. High teams will meet for the first time on Tuesday evening, 8/9, and again on Thursday, 8/11, along with the JV and Varsity. (Elementary will be done at 8:00, other 3 teams will continue until 8:30pm) After practice on Thursday evening, Aug. 11, coaches will make the final team assignments and we will notify everyone of their official team assignments via email, so that everyone will know when to come the following week.

The pre-season training will continue throughout the month of August (Aug. 8 or 9 - Aug. 30), with the JV & Varsity teams meeting 3 nights a week: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, while the Elementary & Jr. High teams will meet just 2 nights a week: Tuesday and Thursday... Times will be as follows:

  • Elementary - 6:30-8:00 (T & Th)

  • Jr.High - 6:30-8:30 (T & Th)

  • JV - 6:30-8:30 (M, T, & Th)

  • Varsity - 6:30-8:30 (M, T, & Th)

Costs to play this year will be:

  • Elementary - $100

  • Jr. High - $175

  • JV - $250

  • Varsity - $300

We are asking for at least a $50 deposit by Tuesday, Aug. 16, and then the remainder is due no later than our first game on Thursday, Sept. 1... We will host a home game at Aim High against Rivertown Christian Volleyball from Grand Rapids that night, 9/1-- and all four teams will play.

A detailed calendar for the season will be available soon, but the general idea is that for the months of Sept. and Oct., the Elementary team will meet twice a week (1 practice & 1 game), Jr. High three times a week (1 practice and 2 games), and JV & Varsity, either 3 or 4 nights a week (no more than 2 practices and 2 games.) Practices will generally be on Mondays and Thursdays, games on Tuesdays and Fridays. Feel free to share this information with any girls who may be interested in joining us for this year's CHAP Volleyball Season! We look forward to seeing you all next week for our first week of pre-season training/ try-outs! If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask me (517-321-2499, mkjcwinter@sbcglobal.net) or Jeff Braatz, Director of the CHAP Volleyball program (517-202-1168, jeffbraatz@yahoo.com). Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you at Aim High next week. :) Blessings, Kim Winter, for CHAP Volleyball

TEAM PLACEMENT
We will use Aug. 8, 9, and 11th for ’team placement’, assessing all the girls interested in playing and figuring out who fits best where. Please download the Team Placement letter & deposit form and bring with you to training by Tuesday, August 9th or mail to Kim Winter at 1012 Powderhorn Dr, Lansing, 48917.
We will then have girls assigned to teams by Aug 11, so we have time for teams to 'gel' and practice together before our first home game on Thursday, Sept. 1.

PARENT MEETING
We will hold a meeting for all parents on Tuesday, Aug. 16, once girls have been assigned to teams. Please plan to have a representative from each household present at Aim High from 6:30-7:00pm for a brief meeting about the season.
You can begin to think now about how you see yourself fitting into the plan… Every family needs to volunteer to assist somehow to make the season successful. Would you be willing to assist us with coaching one of the teams, serving as a 'team mom', scheduling volunteers, organizing the tournament, coordinating the banquet, or with things like taking admissions, line judging, & score-keeping? Please let us know what part you’d like to play and how you would like to be involved in CHAP Volleyball this year! :) We thank you in advance for all of your help!

SCHEDULE FOR THE SEASON
Beginning in September and continuing through the end of October, practices will continue on Mondays and Thursdays (though Elementary & Jr. High will just practice on Thursdays), while games are scheduled for Tuesdays and Fridays, plus a few Saturday tournaments.
Elementary girls would be committed 2 days a week (1 practice & 1 game), Jr. High would be 3 days a week (either 1 practice & 2 games, or 2 practices & 1 game), while JV & Varsity will be committed 4 days a week (2 practices & 2 games.) Practice times are all slated to be from 6:30-8:30, while games will start a little earlier-- especially away games.
The season will conclude with our State Tournament on Oct. 28 & 29 (unless Varsity parents and girls decide to commit to attending the national homeschool volleyball tournament in Omaha, NE, Nov. 2-6) and then a season-end banquet on Tuesday, November 1.

That's a basic overview of the CHAP Volleyball 2016 Season. :) We're looking forward to a great season together playing some awesome volleyball, learning lots, building great teams, developing friendships, and glorifying God through it all!

COACHES

We are excited to announce the coaching staff for the 2016 Volleyball Program:

Paul Farhat - Varsity Coach

For the last 20 years I have been a architectural designer in the Lansing and surrounding areas, 12 of which I have owned my own company Farhat Designs where I have been blessed to be at home and watch my family grow. My wife Jenni and I have been married for 19 years and have a son named Elijah age 7 and 4 daughters, Melanie 16, Isabelle 14, Trinity 9 and Veronica age 3-- three of whom will be participating in CHAP volleyball this season. This is our third year of home schooling. We have been blessed to be a part of CHAP volleyball the last two years, watching our daughter and her friends grow in both physical and spiritual strength. I am honored to be a part of such a wonderful homeschool sports program, and looking forward to seeing all the growth that this season brings.

Jocelyn Carter - Jr. Varsity Coach

I played volleyball for four years in high school and I continue to play volleyball with my husband, Daniel Carter, in various leagues. I have been married for 17 years and I have a 16 year old daughter, Danielle, that has taken up volleyball as well. My hope is to instill in her and others the love for volleyball and the lasting friendships that can come along with it. I look forward to coaching this year and meeting everyone.

Sarah Rottman - Jr. High Coach

Erica Daniels - Elementary Coach
